SPLINTERED

Soho Theatre 2022

Part-play, part-cabaret, join our three MCs as they take you through a queer whirlwind of sad truths, joyful lies and Caribbean history.

How does one deal with coming out in a homophobic culture? With queer joy, yuh dun know.

Carnival is a commemoration despite and in spite of oppression. We Caribbean people celebrate through hard times, and here we are – celebrating and trying to unpack what it means to be queer in a place where it is outlawed. A dazzling show based upon interviews with queer women from Trinidad & Tobago – this is SPLINTERED.

★★★★★ The Guardian

"Fast-paced and brimming with energy, this endlessly political show never stops being playful. Even when their tales are stained by sadness and shame, it remains a comedy about joy."

★★★★ The Evening Standard

The reason the show is able to achieve a real sense of catharsis is not because it is an evening of bouncy escapism. The trauma it mines underneath the energy and the fun shows that joy often has to be found in spite of pain.

★★★★ The Stage
“The trauma painted in Splintered has been utilised by Aboud and her team into the creation of their own “carnival of truths” which resists norms, challenges audience perceptions and celebrates queer love and joy. And it does so with serious flair.”
